Calapooia Food Alliance Minutes 6/18/15
Present: Members; Steve Brenner, Kathleen Swayze, Gini Bramlett, Cheryl Hayworth, Don Lyon, Peggy Purkerson, FM Mgr. Ally Maser & CG Mgr. Diane Remior.
Minutes: Motion to approve corrected minutes made by Kathleen, second by Steve.
Treasurers Report: Diane presented a list of requested expenditures including equipment and supplies for the Farm Market that was not budgeted for. Cheryl was concerned that those expenses be in the proper format to be considered per our tax exempt status. The expenses of $450, approved by the board, are necessary for promoting the newly changed Thursday Market format. (Another $150.00 was requested for events and music). Cheryl and Peg will make appropriate adjustments to the budget to allow for the additional monies needed to promote our farm market.
Reports: A signup sheet for The Garden Gathering at Rhoda’s was passed around to verify volunteer times.
Farmers Market: Diane reported new vendors at the market with Marjie coming back with her popular bar and laundry soaps. Nelson’s have been steady at the first two markets.
Diane addressed the farm market budget; new canopy over the stage at a cost of $128.99 at Costco, new water jug, with Steve bringing a metal one in the interim, paint for board and tables, new board to fix sign, good quality bungee cords and a reimbursement to herself for her food samples that are promoted in the recipes she submits to the Times.
Community Garden: Ally requested a commitment of 2-4 hours a month to help at the Community Garden. She was also planning to check into persons who have community service hours to help. She is planning a potluck/work party in July to encourage the community to help out. The tentative date is July 29. Kathleen offered to loan an 8×8 canopy to the garden for cover.
Taking Root: Gini contacted Jennifer Moody at the Democrat Herald in Albany about writing a press release for Downtown Thursday. Jennifer was glad to hear from us since she wanted to include more information about events in Brownsville. Gini emailed the press release along with a photo.
Annual Election: Steve will be sending out applications for new board members. It was decided that we would open 3 board positions.
Munch Night: It was decided that Munch Night would be on hold for a couple of months since we had so much going on in June.
Mother Earth Fair: Gini’s board drew lots of attention. The CFA was the only organization present like ours. It is looking like Albany will be the location for next year’s fair; same weekend, same location.
Brownsville Garden Club Garden Tour: The Garden Club has postponed the garden tour idea until next year.
Next CFA Meeting: Monday, July 20 at the Community Room at 7pm.
