Community Garden: So far we have received $286 for plot rentals. The board discussed considering planting corn on the extra plots to sell at the market. Kathleen is also considering renting a plot. The water has now been turned on at the garden.
The grant money from CLCF has been deposited. A reception for donors and recipients of the grants will be held in the community room May 31. The board agreed we should all make the effort to be present.
No time has been set, as of yet, to finish the decking on the gazebo at the garden. It was suggested to wait until the gardens get planted.
Taking Root: Next column will talk about the film, “Seed; The Untold Story,” which will be shown at the next Munch Night on Friday, May 19.
Thursday Market: Gini will be contacting Cathy McGuire, Master Food Preserver with dates to have them at markets in July, August and September to share information about food preservation. September will also include pressure canner gauge testing. Don announced that Master Gardeners plan to be at the market every other week during the season. Dates were coordinated with food preservers.
It was decided that the market will not be a presence at the Stand By Me event in July due to it being on a Sunday, and the fact that the market has not done well in the past during other events.
Munch Night: is Friday May 19 at 7pm at Randy’s Main St. Coffee. The film is “Seed; The Untold Story.” Most of the board took the time to preview the film so as to offer a more lively, informational discussion following. Menu is “Asparagus” with quiche, pasta, breads, salad and desserts. This will coincide with Harpers First anniversary celebration.
Tamale Workshops: Dennis will be continuing the workshops now that he is settled in a more suitable living space.
New Horizon’s Film Gathering: The next date is June 9 at 7pm in the community room. Steve suggested showing a film on the big pharmaceuticals.
Pioneer Picnic: The board has decided to participate in the parade with a “float” using Old Yeller. The picnic’s theme this year is “Singing and Star Gazing on the Trail.” Suggested name for our float is “Stars of the Garden”. Members will think on possible ideas for the float (maybe hay bales, persons in garden garb with garden tools, market stands with produce, music etc…) and communicate those ideas via email. The parade is June !7. Steve and Kathleen will work on promotional banners for the event. Also, we need to find someone to give out honey stix.
Next CFA Meeting: Monday, June19, 2017 at Community Room.
