Calapooia Food Alliance Minutes Nov. 13, 2017
Present: Board members: Don Lyon, Steve Brenner, Gini Bramlett, Kathleen Swayze and Sally
Minutes: Kathleen made a motion to approve minutes. They were seconded by Don.
Treasurers Report for October, 2017 – Checking $9,741.63 Key Savings $16,805.90/ Selco $513.20 plus $5.00. Peggy sent a thank you note to Margy and Peter for their generous $6,000 donation.
Community Garden: Steve will meet with Jason Curtis for an estimate on gravel and sand, as well as talk to Ben Schwarzendruber for pavers.
Honey Sales – Don spoke about the board being able to purchase honey at a discount for gift giving. Also, that honey will be for sale over the holidays at the Art Center and at Annie’s.
Taking Root: Next column will be about how healthy eating can change your life
Thursday Market – Gini will talk with Sandy about her future plans for the present market location. Gini will also talk to Marjie about being on our board.
Munch Night: This Friday at Randy’s at 6pm. Dennis will be preparing Posole and vegetarian enchiladas along with fixins’. Board will be preparing all the sides and desserts. Film is “Food Inc.” Next Munch Night is Dec. 15.
Cider Pressing: Nov. 24 at Boston Mill. Apples have been purchased and Don will scout for volunteers to assist at the event.
New Horizon’s Film Gathering: Steve’s suggestion was “I am Not Your Negro,” Sally suggested “French Organic Revolution” and Gini mentioned “Sugar.” Film is “Got It” at 7pm Dec. 1 at the Community Room.
Discussion: Medical Marijuana and the benefits of at a future Munch Night. Discussion included the importance of being specific of the parameters so as not to lose control of the program. It was also suggested we include discussion of hemp. Kathleen suggested inviting local speakers with credentials such as Steve VanSandt and Randy and Gail from the local dispensary. Steve will look into case studies.
