Calapooia Food Alliance Minutes Dec. 11, 2017
Present: Board members: Don Lyon, Steve Brenner, Gini Bramlett, Kathleen Swayze and Peggy Purkerson
Minutes: Three corrections were made. Kathleen made a motion to approve as corrected. Peggy seconded.
Treasurers Report: Checking $3,947.20 Key Savings-22,806.28, Selco $513.25. Kathleen said she’d have the 2018 Budget worksheet at the next meeting.
Community Garden: Building costs thus far is $1,204.56. A work party to lay pavers is planned. Don suggested we bring heavy gloves and knee pads. There will be extra bricks after the project is done for other uses in the garden. The garden is otherwise buttoned up for the winter.
Honey Sales: Kathleen brought a few honey jars with the holiday labels. Steve will be designing an ad and Don will place the ad in the Times. Holiday honey is for sale at The Farm Kitchen, the art center and Kathleen will talk to Paula at Pioneer Market and the owner of CC and Annie’s. It was decided that our byline for honey sales is “Honey for the Holidays”.
Taking Root: Next column will be based on handout Gini passed around with a chart giving info on how to choose the healthiest produce. It was also decided the column should be a relatively consistent length to help Lance place is in a regular spot. If needed, two parters can be used. It was also briefly discussed that Kathleen and Gini meeting w. Vance after Christmas- now that he’s doing better-so we can make some decisions about making the column pop and cost.
Munch Night: Next one is Friday, Jan. 19 at Randy’s at 6pm. There will be no Munch Night in December.
Medical Marijuana Forum: After much discussion it was decided that the Medical Marijuana Forum should be held as a separate event rather than at Munch Night. Most who attend Munch Night are on the page page as us already, and a separate forum could help make the general public comfortable. The forum will be held Wed. Jan. 17 in the Community Room with the possible name: “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Medical Marijuana and Were Afraid to Ask.”.
Cider Pressing: Don reported that approx 800 people attended three pressing at Boston Mills in late November. Two Towns donated apples, but it was discussed the values of utilizing Sarah’s apples at Oregon Country Farm, both for us and for her. An apple tree pruning workshop was discussed for February.
New Horizon’s Film Gathering: Film is “Embrace the Spirit” at 7pm Jan. 5 at the Community Room.
New Business: Don talked about the Jan 11 Health Care Forum discussing Measure 101. Speaking at 7pm in the Community Room is Dr. Bruce Thompson. Voting is Jan. 23.
