Calapooia Food Alliance Minutes 4/20/15
Present: Board Members; Don Lyons, Steve Brenner, Kathleen Swayze, Peggy Purkerson, Cheryl Haworth and Gini Bramlett, FM Manager Diane Remior and CG manager Ally Maser.

Minutes: Motion to approve corrected minutes for 2/16/15 was made by Kathleen, seconded by Peggy.

Treasurers Report: Cheryl and Peggy, as budget committee, projected the 2015 budget and came out close to even excluding Margie’s $5,000 donation. It was discussed the growth/change costs to be more, so included $100 for music/events. Income projection is more produce sales this year, and anticipated $2,000 for Munch Night donations. The CFA is also waiting for a grant of $500. Kathleen made a motion to accept changes, and Peggy seconded. Costs include the purchase of new hand tools for the garden.

Farmers Market: Diane is anticipating more income since she is focusing strictly on the market now. On May 9, the market will be a rest stop for a bike event that is coming thru Brownsville. Diane plans to talk with her new neighbor (an accountant) to help set up an accounting system. She also reported a good number of vendors anticipated for the starts market.

Community Garden: Gini donated starts to the garden thanks to the Sharing Garden in Monroe. Ally suggested a community event at the garden for a plant/seed exchange, rock painting, and food and possibly a welcome event for plot renters. Other ideas include planting a pizza garden getting kids to plant or take home donated plants, and allowing visitors to plant some veggies in an unused plot.
Ally is also working on rallying volunteers.

Munch Night: Munch Night will be held Friday, April 24 at 7pm at the Corner Café building. Set up is 3pm. Theme is a salad bar and the movie will feature a University of Oregon student production on coffee from the farms to our kitchens.

New Business: Rhoda Fleishman is hosting a Garden Gathering at her farm on June 27 featuring artists in the garden. The CFA has offered to provide help with set up, sales, potting plants and take down, and also helping with publicity by a mention in the Taking Root column.

A grant from the BCF for $500 has been applied for to help purchase a new sign for the Community Garden.

The Mother Earth News Fair is the first weekend in June and the CFA has offered to volunteer in exchange for free admission. Don will be contacting them ASAP since there has been no word.

Peggy endorsed the free Ford Foundation Leadership Training to enhance the community. Register by June.

Next CFA Meeting: Monday, May 20, 2015 at the Community Room.
